Commonly used rubber seal shapes

There are 3 types of commonly used rubber seal shapes:

1. O type sealing ring

O-ring is abbreviated as O-ring, which began to appear in the middle of the 19th century, when it was used as a sealing element for steam engine cylinders.

O-type rubber seals have the following advantages of rubber seals:

(1) The structure of the sealing part is simple, the installation part of the rubber seal is compact, and the weight is lighter;

(2) It has a self-sealing effect, and often only one seal can be used to complete the seal;

(3) The rubber seal has good sealing performance, and it can be used as a static seal almost without leakage;

(4) The frictional resistance of movement is very small, and it can be adapted to the occasion of alternating pressure;

(5) The size and groove have been standardized, the cost is low, and it is easy to use and outsource.

2. V-shaped sealing ring

V-shaped sealing ring is a kind of lip-shaped sealing ring, which is one of the earliest and most used molding fillers. It is mainly used for reciprocating motion to seal the piston or piston rod. It is rarely used in rotation or as a static seal.

V-shaped sealing ring has the following characteristics:

(1) Good sealing performance;

(2) Allow certain eccentric load and eccentric movement;

(3) It can be used in multiple circles overlapping, and the maximum sealing effect can be obtained by adjusting the pressing force;

(4) Resistance to shock pressure and vibration pressure;

(5) When the packing cannot be installed from the axial direction, it can be used with slits. As long as the slits are staggered during installation, the sealing effect will not be affected. The disadvantage is that the friction resistance is larger than that of other shaped fillers.

3. Y-type sealing ring

The U-shaped and Y-shaped sealing rings used for piston sealing are slightly different in shape. The U-shaped ring has a long lip, and the bottom and the lip are the same thickness or slightly larger than the lip.

The Y-shaped ring is purely short and the bottom is thick. This is designed to overcome the fact that the U-shaped ring is often unable to be placed in a stable manner. At the same time, it can increase the strength of the lip to prevent the root of the lip from being torn.
